Getting started as an operator
When you log in to Baseboard and get to the Operations home page (url shows .../operator/
), you'll see 2 sections:
- Work in Progress: these are the production batches you've worked on but haven't completed yet.
- Products: the products your organization creates.
Let's get into both both of them.
Products
These are all the products that your organization creates. Click on one of them to continue.
You'll now see all the product configurations for the selected product; it might be just one but could be multiple.
If your organization has multiple sites where it assembles products, you'll see them below each other for each product configuration. For each site you see a dropdown where the versions of the Bill of Process for that product configuration for that site are listed. The latest released version is selected by default and should be a safe choice (unless your work instructions say otherwise of course). Click on the process tree button so all the modules for that Bill of Process will be fetched.
Select the module that you want to assemble. Two buttons appear:
If you only want to take a peek at the instructions outside normal assembly operations, use the button with the looking glass. You'll go to the first step of the assembly instructions.
If you're actually going to assemble the module, click on the button with the tools and you'll see this:
It creates a production batch assigned to you for this module (we'll get back to that later). It requires a Purchase Order number and one or more serial numbers. These numbers are assigned to you by the production planning. Click Save and you'll go to the first assembly step for the module.
Instructions
The instructions look like this:
At the top is a banner reminding you which PO number you're contributing to. On the right is an overview of all the steps in the assembly process for this module. On the left you see the instructions for the selected step. Let's break that last section down a little further.
At the top are all the articles that you need for this step, which are either parts or consumables (like glue, gloves).
Then it shows how to combine these articles in the instructions.
Some steps will also have checks that you need to complete per serial number. Your answers are logged under your name and the previously given PO number and serial number. This helps build a record for each produced product.
Navigate to the next step Next button at the bottom. You can use the Previous button to go back a step or click on a step in the step overview on the right to go to a specific step. Once you get to the last step, you'll see a Complete button. If you click it but forgot some required checks, you'll see a warning:
Once all required checks are complete you can click Complete in the dialog and the production batch will be completed.
Issues
Things change, it might be Monday morning, the world is a cruel place; one thing is sure, issues will occur and if that happens you can report them by using this button at the bottom:
This will bring up a dialog where you can give the issue a name and a description. The issue will automatically be linked to the step you're in so no need to mention that. You can also link this issue to the serial numbers you're currently working on. Only do that if the issue is specific to these serial numbers. If it's a generic issue with this step, uncheck the boxes.
Shared responsibility is no responsibility so also assign this issue to someone by click the + button here:
If you're allowed to create uploads in your organization, you can also add attachments like a picture of the situation:
Click Save and your issue is logged.
Work in Progress
Let's say you created a production batch as shown above but you didn't finish it in a day or you ran into an issue and needed to leave it while working on something else. That production batch is still open and is shown under Work in Progress.
It'll remember where you were last for that batch and will take you there. You can delete the production batch if you want. You can also see other people's work in progress if you click the users icon at the top right. If you select a user you'll see something like this:
If your colleague is sick or there's another reason for you to take over their production batch, click on the shopping cart to transfer the batch to you.
